Before we get going, I know what you’re thinking (at least, if you in a northern place like me, where summer doesn’t officially start for a while yet). It’s May, summer doesn’t really start until June, and we’re all still tackling our spring reading lists. Who’s even thinking about summer reading lists?
The answer? Me. Because it’s 22C here today, and my brain went into summer mode, despite having two months of school programs left to do. It’s what happens when you’re mind has two seasons: summer and why-isn’t-it-summer.
But anyway.
With warm weather showing up, it’s time to start thinking about what books you’re going to tackle while laying in the sun and soaking up those lovely rays (with a litre of sunscreen applied, obviously). Need some ideas for your list? I’ve got you covered.
Set in summer, this book follows Molly, a girl who crushes but never acts on them. Her newest crush shows up one night, but then, there’s also that cute guy from work catching her eye.
Summer vacation, romance, chocolate mini eggs. What else do you need in a summer read?
Olivia was always supposed to be the one to become famous, but when Dana gets randomly chosen to audition for a girl band, things get a little intense.
Girl bands, romance, and lots of drama will have you hooked into this book. Well, at least until a hot guy/girl on the beach distracts you.
It’s Cinderella, but with a nerdy setting, movie stars, and space shows.
No list is complete without at least one retelling.
Louna works for a wedding planning company, but doesn’t believe in love that last forever. Ambrose is a playboy. Will they ever get along?
Another summer setting, and weddings are always fun to read about in the summer. Plus, Sarah Dessen writes great summer reads.
Mia is a normal girl living a normal life. Except not, because she’s actually a princess.
I admit to not reading these much anymore, but the junior high flashbacks started getting to be a bit much. But these are great summer reads if you want fun drama.
Do dogs have a purpose or nah?
It’s about dogs. What time of the year is better to read about dogs?
Human kind has eradicated death, so someone’s gotta control the popular. Except maybe you shouldn’t make two people compete for the job.
If you’re looking for something a little more serious, this is a great read that will keep you hooked in right to the end.
Lia doesn’t want to be in an arranged marriage so she runs away and attempts to lead a simple, peasant life. It doesn’t really go to plan.
So love triangle, which I know a lot of people aren’t fans of. But this series is so much fun that you should check it out despite that.
Couple really want a baby, so when one washes up on shore, they take advantage of it.
Set on an island, this is a lovely little novel about family, truth and lies, and the ocean. If you’re looking for a little drama this summer, you should check it out.
Family is crazy and has their own island. Things happen, and it gets crazier.
This is one of those books you either love or hate. But it’s a short, easy read that’s definitely worth giving a shot.
Clones exist, and the world is not prepared for that sort of thing.
This is a bit more science fiction-y, and while has it’s issues, it definitely worth a read.

I wonder if A Dog’s Purpose is anything like the movie? It had it’s good moments, but some of Bailey’s lives were so sad. 😢
I agree for sure with the Dessen book. Any of her books are good, but especially the ones that take place in Colby.

I need to find a family tree sort of thing that shows how the books are all connected. I know they’re not strictly a series, but sometimes you hear a mention of someone or something you know happened in a previous book and it drives me crazy when I can’t remember.
