A List of Books That Suck… In My Opinion Anyway

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted over on The Broke and the Bookish.

Freebie weeks are hard! I never know what to make lists about. But a lot of my lists have been positive, so let’s go in the opposite direction, shall we?

Not every book is for everyone. And I have a tendency to strongly dislike books that everyone else seems to love, so this could be interesting. But here are some books that I am not a fan of in any way, shape, or form. Bring on all the hate from me ripping on your favourites! Life is too short for bad books!

This series is so popular, and I genuinely don’t know why. This book was awful. It was poorly written, and all over the place. Good idea, bad execution. I assume later books get better, but I can’t bring myself to give them a try.

I tried reading this a few years back, and it was so boring. I didn’t even get through it. I couldn’t bring myself to get through it.

I actually really liked the movie. I just couldn’t do the writing of the book, though.

I liked this book as a preteen. As an adult, it scares me. You can’t treat people like that!

I can’t deal with Romeo. He really needs to grow a pair.

I can’t do romance, guys. This book was so boring.

Please stop making fan fictions into books. Or, start making only the good fan fictions into books.

Good idea, bad execution. It could have been interesting, but it was just kind of boring to read.

This is the one I expect the most flak for, honestly. I have read all three of these, plus The Hobbit, because I was told ‘oh, they get better!’ They don’t. For a story about adventure, it’s painfully boring. All they do is talk about things, and then have lame battles. I do not understand why these are so popular. (The only good point is I did have one hell of a night after an LotR drinking game, but another story for another time.)

What are your least favourite books? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I preferred the film version of The Perks if Being A Wallflower too, I found the writing too difficult and some scenes were slightly strange and confusing

  2. I haven’t read Life of Pi but I loved the movie, so I really want to give the book a try at some point!
Aw man, I love both The Perks of Being a Wallflower and all the Twilight books! I’m so fond of them, especially the Twilight series, and I always feel like I can identify with Bella quite a lot, as stupid as that might sound. 😛

  3. Hahaha I love reading your take on all of these books. I have tried reading LoTR but just couldn’t do it. I agree with Twilight, I just did a post about me trying to re-read it…it was a DNF lol. I hate 50 Shades too…actually hate it and would burn it. Awesome post 🙂

  4. One of my favorite things about reading is that it’s a deeply personal experience. So no book is for everyone, but each book is for someone. I’m not too fond of anything by Nicholas Sparks, or the Twilight series, either. Two classics I couldn’t get into–Lolita and Ulysses. My TTT

  5. Wow, city of bones is so raved about and although I vaguely remember reading it years ago I was planning on re-reading it so I could try and get into the series. I’m not sure I want to now though, not only based on your opinion of it not being good but also because the series is just so long…I don’t have the dedication for it. Really great post!
