Saturday Song: Sit Still Look Pretty by Daya

Happy Saturday! Can you believe that it’s September already? Back to school season, for those who are in school or those who work around the school year. Or just the beginning of fall and the end of summer for those that don’t.

Today’s song is…

Sit Still Look Pretty by Daya

Okay, where was this song when I was about fourteen and doing the whole teenaged angst thing? Because I think the song is great now, but it would have been incredible when I needed to hear things like this. Being a bit of a tomboy my entire life, but living somewhere that gender stereotypes were big, this song would have been incredible.

From a composition standpoint, the song is nothing particularly special. It’s the same old pop sound, same basic chord progressions we’ve seen a thousand times. Daya’s voice has a great sound to it, but it’s nothing overly unique. What really makes this song stand out is the message and the idea that girls don’t have to fit into the general female stereotype. So for that, go Daya.

Take a listen and let me know what you think!!
