Saturday Song: Symphonie Fantastique 5th Movement

We’re changing things up today for Saturday Song!

I was lucky enough to see this symphony performed last night, and I felt the need to share it with you. It’s by far one of my favourite classical pieces, and definitely appeals to the story-lover in me.

Symphonie Fantastique 5th Movement

This symphony is by good, ol’ Hector Berlioz. To keep a long story short, guy falls in love with woman, not sure she loves him back, goes and poisons himself with opium. Doesn’t actually kill himself, and has some pretty crazy dreams. This movement here is the crazy dreams part. Apparently, he finds himself at a witches’ Sabbath, and his own funeral, and all kinds of craziness goes down.

It’s a fun piece. I highly recommend you listen to the whole thing, but it is about 50 minutes long. This is the best part, anyway.

Take a listen and let me know what you think!
